GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance and the Assembly are proposing changes to site access rules to simplify requirements for driveways, sidewalks and parking areas—steps they say will ease housing development delays. • Anchorage is planning a two-year pilot project called the Microunit Recovery Program — it will build 24 tiny recovery residences on city land to offer 80 to 100 square feet living spaces with shared bathrooms and on-site support for people experiencing homelessness and substance use issues. The program, inspired by a church tiny homes model and improved with larger units and better guest screening, will be reviewed by the Assembly on June 10 and may start construction later this summer with units opening by October.  Your Alaska Link
