  • Anchorage’s Town Square Park hosted its annual tree lighting ceremony on November 29th at 6:20 p.m., marking more than 20 years of tradition with live music and free hot chocolate — residents also met Santa and his reindeer.  Alaska's News Source

  • Downtown Anchorage hosted Small Business Saturday on November 29 — the event let shoppers visit local stores and take advantage of special offers to support small businesses. Many community members enjoyed finding unique products and deals throughout the day.  Alaska's News Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After Typhoon Halong caused major damage in Western Alaska, state and federal agencies along with community groups provided more than $41 million in relief support. More than 2,000 people were evacuated and hundreds received hotel sheltering, meal deliveries, and aid registrations with deadlines on Dec 22 and Jan 8—ensuring affected residents get critical help.  Must Read Alaska

SPORTS NEWS

  • Scores from November 29 showed high school teams winning in hockey, wrestling and basketball with Monroe Catholic, Houston, Palmer and Wasilla posting key victories, while college games and the Anchorage Wolverines' win in NAHL rounded out a busy day.   • Rosie Brennan, a two-time Olympian, is returning to the World Cup circuit after a tough season affected by health and training challenges.
