- ➤ The Dahl Memorial Clinic and Chilkoot Indian Association are collecting supplies from community members in Haines and Skagway to support over 1,000 people displaced by Typhoon Halong last month, with donations set to be shipped to Anchorage. Skagway residents must drop off items such as clothing+sleeping bags, pillows and hygiene items today while Haines accepts shelf-stable food and other goods. KBRW

- ➤ Kenai Aviation stopped flying on November 4 after a Facebook post said the airline was financially insolvent from pandemic debt and a grounded King Air — the carrier had offered daily flights between Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula to serve eight communities. Alaska Public Media
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Portugal. The Man announced a new album called SHISH that is an ode to Alaska and will be released on Nov. 7. The album pays tribute to local communities and sled dog culture — including nods to Shishmaref and Denali — and the band will tour the state in January. Alaska Public Media
- ➤ The Alaska Railroad unveiled its 2026 annual art print 'Ship Creek Crossing' by artist Richard Rearick, which captures Anchorage’s freight train scene along Ship Creek and the historic bridge at milepost 114.3 scheduled for replacement as part of a rehabilitation program. The public will meet the artist—at Anchorage Depot on January 10 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and at Fairbanks Depot on January 17 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—to purchase signed prints. Your Alaska Link

- ➤ Students at Muldoon Elementary received new winter coats today from a partnership between FedEx Cares—Operation Warm that provided 400 children with gear to stay warm and safe this winter. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At the end of October, the Department of Environmental Conservation released a map that is updated daily by 4 p.m. to show progress in villages affected by former Typhoon Halong. The map shows each village's status for drinking water, sewer systems, and waste management — it helps DEC track repairs now and plan fixes when spring begins. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ Climate specialists say Alaska's old sea ice has almost vanished since 2000, leaving a thinner ice pack that storms can break up easily and pushing fish populations northward while changing traditional hunting practices. Dunleavy declared a disaster Monday to allow state funds to refill SNAP cards after federal delays left 66,000 recipients without their scheduled benefits—state officials say the cards will be refilled by Friday and food banks will also receive support. - ➤ Wage-earning Alaskans displaced by Typhoon Halong qualify for federal disaster unemployment assistance that pays between $153 and $370 per week for up to 27 weeks if they cannot reach normal worksites. Calista Corporation is coordinating job placement, training programs, and temporary office space for tribal governments at the Egan Civic and Convention Center—helping evacuees earn income while rebuilding begins in damaged villages.
