Good morning, Anchorage.
The Boys and Girls Club of Southcentral Alaska paused its afterschool clubhouse programs on October 20 due to low cash flow—furloughing 87 of its 144 staff while keeping its childcare center and Turnagain Elementary site open.
The nonprofit is now working to raise $250,000 to restore the clubhouse services for its 1,363 active members.
At the recent Alaskans 4 Personal Freedom Conference, attendees raised $1,820 for Downtown Anchorage Hope Center in a split-the-pot contest— the winner returned their half to support the center.
The center provided daily meals and shelter to homeless and low-income residents and relied on local donations for its services.
Team Rubicon, a veteran-led disaster response group, continues to serve Alaskans after Typhoon Halong by asking for new donations such as mattresses and mattress pads to help victims living on cots.
