Anchorage now has a central donation center for Typhoon Halong victims—volunteers from Team Rubicon coordinate the effort at the request of the state and Native organizations.

The Anchorage School District is helping hundreds of students displaced by former Typhoon Halong who fled their Western Alaska villages to Anchorage.

Superintendent Bryantt said ASD activated its emergency operations center and is coordinating with local partners — including the Alaska Red Cross — to transport students to schools and offer mental health support as families adjust.

The federal government shutdown means that 66,471 Alaskan families will not get SNAP benefits in November—families such as Tayy Drake’s in Anchorage and evacuees from Typhoon Halong face a serious risk of food shortages.

The state is exploring options to support SNAP and WIC funding as households struggle with rising food costs.

Representatives from Alaska Native organizations called for a unified management approach for subsistence resources at a panel held at the Dena'ina Convention Center, saying indigenous knowledge should guide decisions on wildlife and fish management— they urged reforms to advisory councils and federal laws to protect traditional rights.
