BUSINESS NEWS

  • After the busy summer, several airlines revised their flight schedules out of Anchorage with many nonstop services ending and new routes set to resume in the winter and spring. American, United, Delta and Alaska Airlines will adjust flights with some routes pausing until later dates—offering Anchorage travelers a mix of nonstop options to cities like Chicago, Dallas and Honolulu.  Anchorage Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the University of Alaska, professors set their own AI guidelines since there is no uniform policy—some students have faced academic misconduct as improper use is reported. Administrators say this approach is meant to help students learn and verify their own work as AI tools become more common.  Anchorage Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents along Alaska’s coastline are bracing as a powerful storm from Typhoon Halong’s remnants is forecast to hit coastal communities today with winds up to 100 mph and storm surges reaching 14 feet. Local authorities have staged emergency resources and issued flood and high wind warnings while some residents have evacuated to safer areas.  Alaska Public Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The US Senate unanimously approved the ARTIST Act to safeguard Alaska Native artists by allowing them to sell traditional ivory art in states with ivory bans. Sen. Dan Sullivan sponsored the bill—supported by the Alaska Federation of Natives, World Wildlife Fund, and Eskimo Walrus Commission—and it now advances to the House for further action.  Anchorage Daily News
  • Jim Duncan, a longtime Alaska lawmaker, published his memoir 'Making Sausage' which details his 45 years in public service and discusses issues like oil taxes, the Permanent Fund, and education funding. The book also explores the 1981 legislative coup and explains how past policy decisions still guide today's debates.  Anchorage Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the Alaska State Tennis Tournament, West High dominated by winning the team event and girls singles with Lana Cebrian, while Juneau-Douglas senior Elliot Welch earned his school’s first boys singles title and Eagle River’s mixed doubles team captured a first state title—other schools celebrated their first state wins as well.  Anchorage Daily News
  • Scores from Oct. 11 showed local high school and college teams competing in flag football, football, volleyball, tennis and swimming events, with Dimond winning 44 to 0 over Bartlett and West’s Lana Cebrian taking the girls singles tennis title. College teams and local athletes also posted tight finishes in hockey and a Zombie Half Marathon—highlighting strong local sports performance.  Anchorage Daily News
  • On Friday night, West beat Colony 34-14 in a Division I playoff game at West High led by quarterback Baylor Wasson who threw three touchdown passes and ran for two scores—despite injuries, coach Brown Faaaliga said the team is set for next week's semifinals.  Anchorage Daily News
