BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ This week, the Pentagon awarded a grant worth over $43 million to Nova Minerals’ Alaska subsidiary—Alaska Range Resources—to fund a two-year pilot phase of its Estelle Project in the Mat-Su Borough, where it will process antimony into munitions-grade trisulfide. Other antimony projects in Alaska are seeking federal support to boost domestic production and reduce reliance on Chinese exports. KTOO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Anchorage School District recommended closing two elementary schools and submitted its proposal to the School Board today— a vote is expected in mid-November. Alaska's News Source
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials said heavy rain and coastal flooding persist after a series of storms hit the region, leaving residents with ongoing hazards. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Alaska’s annual infectious disease report shows chlamydia and gonorrhea cases declined from 2023 to 2024—while syphilis cases increased to 445 and congenital syphilis dropped from 10 to 7, with nearly half of the 4,712 chlamydia cases coming from Anchorage. The report also recorded 614 pertussis and 91 tuberculosis cases along with rare reports of Lyme disease and malaria. Alaska Public Media
