ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Anchorage now faces a tsunami risk after a 2023 study modeled worst-case scenarios from the 1964 earthquake—experts advise residents to plan evacuation routes and stay alert to seismic activity. While a ten-foot wave in 1964 caused minor damage at low tide, a similar event at high tide could cause significant harm.  Your Alaska Link
  • John Fraser—the psychologist from Alaska SeaLife Center—won the Devra Kleiman Scientific Advancement Award last month for his research linking nature loss with stress in conservation workers and for helping shape a program that trains aquarium educators to talk about climate change.  Alaska Public Media
