  • Anchorage Animal Care and Control is asking residents to drop off towel and blanket donations at its Elmore Road facility as winter nears—these items help care for shelter animals and support pet adoption.  Your Alaska Link
  • Anchorage residents are invited to join STAR Alaska’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event at Dimond Center Mall today to support survivors of sexual violence — tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for students aged 11 to 17 and free for children under 10. The walk begins at 11 a.m.  Your Alaska Link

  • Alaska Airlines rolled out its annual PFD sale on Tuesday and offered three sets of special fares for travel within the state, international trips with Hawaiian, and Lower48 routes—discounts are available through May 12 as other airlines respond.   • At Katmai National Park, four bears advanced in Fat Bear Week after Friday’s quarterfinals. Bear Grazer—128 and bear 856 will face each other in the semifinals on Monday while bears 602 and Chunk—32 will battle, with voters set to choose a final winner on Tuesday, Sept. 30.  Alaska's News Source

  • Peggy Benson, longtime director of the Alaska Sound Celebration a cappella chorus, is preparing for her final season after 28 years of guiding the group—she plans to return as a singer after retiring from directing. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Academies of Anchorage Career Fair at the Dena’ina Center brought together students from across the district to explore over 110 job opportunities in areas such as emergency services and government—industry professionals shared insights on careers in environmental science. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Alaska Supreme Court ruled Friday that the Department of Fish and Game may allow Jet Skis in Kachemak Bay—reversing a lower court decision from 2023. The verdict confirms the state’s power to repeal outdated rules, a change supported by personal watercraft groups and initiated by Gov. Dunleavy in 2019.  Alaska Beacon
  • Alaska will build its first state veterans cemetery using a $16M federal grant from the VA to serve over 15,000 veterans and their families, and the project includes 351 crypts, 600 niches, 279 gravesites, roads, landscaping, and a maintenance facility — construction will begin soon with completion expected in 24 months.  Your Alaska Link
  • An Anchorage judge ruled against Alaska in an 11-year legal dispute over the western border of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, leaving 20,000 acres of oil-rich land under federal control.   • The VA is awarding over $2.6M in grants to Catholic Social Services — receiving nearly $1.8M — and Fairbanks Rescue Mission — getting just over $840K — to help homeless and at-risk Veterans get housing, health care, financial planning, childcare, legal help, and transportation.  Your Alaska Link
