  • Tom Sexton’s final book—Dark Cloud in Isabel Pass—was published by Loom Press and shows his love for Alaska and its nature through poems about local scenes and personal walks. The book offers clear verses that cover northern life, Maine views, and Chinese poetry and is a last gift from the beloved poet who once taught creative writing at our local university.  Anchorage Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Federal and state scientists are closely monitoring Barry Arm as melting glaciers and steep slopes in Prince William Sound increase the risk of landslide-generated tsunamis. New instruments—including tidal gauges, seismic stations, and ground-based radar—have led local tour operators in Whittier to adjust their activities for safety.  Anchorage Daily News

  • After collecting fallen fruit on Friday, Sept. 12, Dan and Nancy Moore finished harvesting at Fire Apple Orchard and Gardens near Big Lake where 450 trees yield 78 kinds of apples and other fruits for customers to pick themselves—families are returning today as part of a busy harvest season.  Anchorage Daily News
