- ➤ Glenfarne announced that Japan’s largest electric company, JERA, agreed to buy 1 million tons of natural gas per year from the proposed Alaska LNG pipeline in a tentative deal signed on Wednesday. The company said its agreement adds to preliminary contracts covering over half of the available LNG capacity—financing will be pursued as final decisions on in-state use and export components are expected by year-end and by the end of 2026. - ➤ New STAR testing results show that last spring Alaska students made about a 1% gain in reading and math scores. Education officials and lawmakers are debating school funding plus next steps to support improved student performance. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ Today, Alaska Attorney General Stephen Cox asked the Regulatory Commission to step in on behalf of Chugach Electric Association ratepayers after the utility automatically enrolled all 90,000 members in its Cents of Community program, which forces them to fund speech they may not support. - ➤ A federal class-action lawsuit against Alaska’s Office of Children’s Services began Aug. 25th in Anchorage after former foster youth Matthew Vandenberg told the court about unsafe placements, including one called the ramen house where he lost weight and missed school. Attorney Marcia Lowry of A Better Childhood said low monthly visits and high caseworker demands have put kids at risk — a sign that reforms may come soon to the foster system. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ An Anchorage Superior Court judge ruled in favor of the state, clearing the way for the repeal of the 80th Percentile Rule—repealed by the Dunleavy administration in 2024 after it was said to raise health care costs, though some medical providers believe its removal may force clinics to close.
