  • Hilcorp Alaska plans to build Project Taiga at Prudhoe Bay — a new development that will yield 40,000 barrels of oil daily when it begins in early 2028, starting with 25,000 barrels from a gravel pad called Omega. The $1 billion investment aims to sustain production at a field that has produced oil for nearly 50 years.  Anchorage Daily News

  • Some Alaskan museums are offering free admission to residents today to celebrate 907 Day—an event that invites locals to explore exhibits and programs.  Alaska's News Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Alaska Anchorage will host four chancellor finalists from September 8 to 18, where each candidate will spend two days on campus meeting students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members in campus tours and open forums.   • Former Attorney General Treg Taylor—who recently stepped down and is expected to enter the 2026 governor race—requested an exemption from electronically filing extensive rental income data for his 234-unit portfolio, a move that APOC staff said cannot exempt the underlying disclosure required by law.   • On Saturday, over 300 people walked one mile near West Anchorage High School to raise awareness for suicide prevention. The Walk out of Darkness event united local residents—emphasizing mental health support in Anchorage.  Alaska's News Source

  • On Sept. 6, 2025, Alaska sports competitions featured a full slate of high school and college events including flag football, football, volleyball, tennis and swimming, with teams like Dimond, South, Eagle River and UAF posting significant wins.   • On Friday, West Anchorage beat Colony Knights 35 to 16 at the Nest on Hillcrest during their first Alumni Night as a strong second-half defense kept Colony scoreless and improved the team’s record to 4 to 0.
