GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Alaska Aerospace is planning to expand its Pacific Test Range from Kodiak to the Aleutians—adding fixed telemetry sites and a possible spaceport at Adak to support future hypersonic tests and orbital launches. Interested contractors will have until late September to submit responses as the state-owned corporation prepares for increased space activity. Alaska Public Media
- ➤ Anchorage officials told Data for Indigenous Justice they would not provide names of Indigenous homicide victims because their records do not track these cases. This decision leaves a key data gap for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People campaign — raising concerns that public promises to address violence may be more performative than effective. - ➤ Earlier this week, the U.S. Coast Guard watched two Chinese research ships in a disputed part of the Arctic Ocean more than 200 miles from Utqiagvik—an area the U.S. claims as part of its longer sea area even though other nations do not back this claim.
