- ➤ The Anchorage Fire Department is holding its first public 9/11 food drive today through Sept 11 to benefit the Food Bank of Alaska. Bins at stations run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and at the training center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the department aims to collect 2,977 pounds of food — a symbolic number that honors lives lost on 9/11. - ➤ A man sought for an arson investigation died by suicide after police stopped his vehicle on the Glenn Highway near the Fort Richardson exit Saturday evening (4900 block of Rollins Drive saw a reported fire), which led to a temporary closure of outbound lanes. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ Codie Costello, president and COO of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, is stepping down this fall to spend more time with her family and will remain until Oct. 30—she will guide the center through key fall events as the board forms a search committee for an interim replacement. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Rex Cannon, co-president of 8 Star Alaska, said his company expects to make a go/no-go decision on the 807-mile trans-Alaska natural gas pipeline by the end of this year—if approved, the project will proceed in two phases with the first set to address local gas shortages as soon as 2029. He noted that the company is finalizing gas sales agreements and seeking financing from the Department of Energy and banks. Alaska Beacon

- ➤ Rep. Kevin McCabe said the next governor must prioritize finishing the nearly complete Point MacKenzie Rail Spur and Port MacKenzie—projects that could bring 3,000 jobs and $300 million in annual revenue by linking the Interior to tidewater.
