ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Anchorage Fire Department responded to a plane crash at Merrill Field around 10:00 p.m. Friday and found everyone safely evacuated while the plane lay on its belly— a previous owner who sold the plane that day later confirmed the prop was severely bent. Alaska's News Source

- ➤ Anchorage police said one pedestrian died in a hit and run near Northern Lights and Boniface around 8 p.m. Friday — a black SUV struck the victim and fled and investigators sought anyone with surveillance footage. Alaska's News Source

- ➤ Scott Robb won first place at the Alaska State Fair Giant Cabbage Weigh-Off on Friday — he used a small vacuum to remove slugs from his 84.2-pound cabbage 'Post Office' and earned a $1,000 prize for his third straight win in Palmer. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ Researchers from across the U.S. are studying Alaska's salt marshes to learn how earthquakes, wildfires, and shifting sediments affect their growth and carbon storage. They will use CT scans and models to analyze samples and track plant diversity in these dynamic wetlands — findings will be published when the study is complete. Alaska's News Source

- ➤ Gov. Mike Dunleavy said in a Friday letter that he will not extend the special session that ends today—he planned it to address education policy and the creation of an independent Department of Agriculture. - ➤ Anchorage Assembly is considering a new measure that will make landlords pay for tenant relocation if a rental remains unfit for human habitation after repeated warnings — the rule would provide tenants with two months' rent back and add daily fines of 50 dollars if landlords do not reimburse within seven days. A public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 23 to hear more on the proposal, which is part of the city's efforts to improve housing conditions. Anchorage Daily News
