ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Anchorage firefighters responded Monday afternoon to a house fire on Roseberry Park Drive in Eagle River—one occupant died and two others survived as crews faced hard access challenges using tanker trucks and foam to put out re-ignitions. Alaska Public Media
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Federal immigration officers arrested a 30-year-old asylum seeker when he arrived for work at a sushi restaurant on Monday, and his attorney said the arrest was based on false information about a prior DWI conviction as ICE expanded its detention policy for long-term residents—he is held at Anchorage Correctional Complex. - ➤ Alaska lowered its wildfire preparedness level from Level 2 to Level 1 after recent rain and rising humidity, even though nearly one million acres have burned and 168 fires remain—Division of Forestry officials said permits for open burning are still required through the end of the month. - ➤ A study published last month found that roads make caribou delay their migrations by an average of nine days by causing them to turn back or follow the road—research by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the National Park Service and the Wilderness Society shows that this delay could influence future planning of road construction.
