Alaska State Troopers fatally shot 32-year-old Charles Hedgers in Meadow Lakes near Wasilla on Friday afternoon after he barricaded himself in a motor home bathroom while armed with a handgun and wanted on a parole violation — medics pronounced him dead and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the use of lethal force.

The Alaska Legislature passed House Bill 57 to raise Base Student Allocation and add programs for class-size caps and reading incentives, but critics say the bill falls short by not tying funding to accountability measures — leaving inefficient practices unchallenged.
