CULTURE NEWS

  • Historian David Reamer shares three unique Alaskana artifacts— a 1911 cigarette card detailing Lincoln Rock Light, a 1967 battery-powered toy ferry from the Alaska centennial, and a 1992 T-shirt that recalls the Mount Spurr eruption which spread ash on Anchorage.  Anchorage Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials issued a disaster declaration for Suicide Basin on August 10—local agencies began coordinating response efforts to address the severe conditions, with relief plans now underway.  Alaska's News Source
  • In August, the Aleut Corp. rejoined the Alaska Federation of Natives after its board accepted an apology and new governance policies—ending a split that began in 2022—making it one of four of six major Native groups to return ahead of a recent annual convention in Anchorage.
