BUSINESS NEWS

  • Santos reached a key milestone on its Pikka Phase 1 project when major processing modules delivered by barge arrived safely at Oliktok Point — they came from Hay River Marine Terminal, traveled through Tuktoyaktuk and the Beaufort Sea, and the nearly complete project has first oil production planned in 2026.  Must Read Alaska

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Anchorage School District approved using $3.67 million to hire 20 more teachers ahead of school start next week + the extra funding came after state lawmakers restored the per-student increase. The district will invest $550,000 in curriculum, tutoring and after-school programs + plan to decide over the next two weeks how to use the remaining $10 million extra funding.  Alaska Public Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Anchorage officials closed Rover’s Run, Viewpoint Trail, and Salmon Run Trail in Far North Bicentennial Park and the BLM Campbell Tract today as increased bear activity from nearby salmon creeks raised safety concerns — the closures will remain until further notice.  Your Alaska Link

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Anchorage Fire Department rescued two family members stranded on Ship Creek without life jackets. The Mat-Su Borough Assembly will hold a public hearing on Tuesday regarding a proposed 7 cent per gallon gas tax to fund road improvements, which will go into effect on January 1, 2026 if approved.  Alaska's News Source
  • On Saturday, legislators overrode Gov. Dunleavy’s veto on an oil tax settlement bill with a 43–16 vote. The bill will compel the executive branch to release settlement details that may reveal tens or hundreds of millions missing from state revenue and could prompt subpoenas against the Department of Revenue if the information is not provided soon.  Alaska Beacon

  • Clair DeGeorge, a 26-year-old forward with the PWHL Toronto Sceptres, launched her inaugural youth hockey camp on Tuesday at Avis Alaska Sports Complex—where six other pros joined her to teach over 135 girls ages 8 to 16 through a Strong Girls United event. The camp will run through today and gives local players a clear look at the path to professional hockey.  Anchorage Daily News
