ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Friday afternoon, a Cessna 208 carrying eight people landed harshly at Merrill Field after dodging heavy traffic on Glenn Highway and crashed through a perimeter fence—no one was injured—and emergency crews soon arrived to assess the scene.  Must Read Alaska

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In 2024, pedestrian deaths in Anchorage jumped 150% after the Assembly ended jaywalking fines in October 2023— the Anchorage Police Department's annual report also noted a broader rise in fatal traffic crashes, highlighting a concerning trend in city safety.  Must Read Alaska
  • The Legislature held a special session on August 2 but delayed a joint vote to override Governor Dunleavy’s vetoes—including his education funding veto and an executive order on creating an agriculture department—after Rep. Burke missed her flight to Juneau. Lawmakers said they will revisit the proposals during the regular session starting in January and begin an education task force later this month.  Anchorage Daily News
  • Lawmakers overrode Gov. Dunleavy’s veto of Senate Bill 183 on Saturday to boost the legislative auditor’s role in obtaining oil tax settlement data from the Department of Revenue—after the bill passed the Senate unanimously and the House by a 30-10 vote, lawmakers said the move was needed following a sharp drop in oil tax revenue and the administration’s uncooperative handling of audit data.  Alaska Public Media
  • State lawmakers overturned Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s two vetoes during a special session on Saturday, restoring a $200 boost to the Base Student Allocation and changing how the executive branch sends budget reports.
