- ➤ Six weeks of practice have prepped theater students for The Music Machine’s 44th annual show at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts this weekend — the event brings together young performers aged six to 18 in a family-like setting. - ➤ Alaska DOT is planning a project to protect parts of Glenn Highway and Old Glenn Highway from erosion by the Matanuska River—surveys are underway and construction is expected to begin in 2026 with another phase in 2030 while the project is estimated to cost between $30 and $40 million and use mostly federal funds with minimal traffic impacts. - ➤ The Arctic Encounter Summit is taking place at the Dena’ina Center, drawing policy makers and business leaders from 27 countries to discuss challenges and opportunities in the Arctic. Lisa Murkowski said a federal funding bill for Fiscal Year 2026 that includes hundreds of millions of dollars for Alaska’s housing, transportation, and infrastructure projects was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee and now moves to a full Senate vote. - ➤ Contracts were awarded Tuesday night to launch a new 100-bed homeless shelter near Merrill Field, shifting capacity from the Midtown site to help ease current strain.
