ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A man was mauled by a bear near the South Fork of Eagle River on Saturday morning and sustained injuries to his arm and hand that are not life threatening—he walked about a mile to call for help at 9:15 a.m. after his off-leash dog likely startled a feeding bear in a defensive attack. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 21-year-old Romanian student visiting Alaska went missing around 6 p.m. Sunday — he was found dead Monday morning in DeLong Lake. Alaska's News Source
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Dunleavy did not sign but allowed three bills to become law last week — two fishing bills that remove redundant boat registration and let cooperatives pool funds as insurance, and one accounting bill that lowers training requirements by letting experience count — as the changes support Alaska’s industries. Alaska Public Media
- ➤ The Alaska Bar Association’s board of governors will vote next month on whether to disbar former Judge Joshua Kindred, who resigned in 2024 after misconduct led to a complaint and an investigative report—marking an unprecedented move against a federal judge in Alaska. If the board approves, the recommendation will be sent to the Alaska Supreme Court, which may allow Kindred a path to restore his license after five years of disbarment—pending final approval. - ➤ Last Friday, the Alaska Supreme Court issued a 22-page opinion that its ruling on candidate Eric Hafner depended on the meaning of 'fifth' in Ballot Measure 2—so if one top-four candidate withdraws, the fifth finisher will replace them. Four justices backed this view while one dissented, and the decision means voters will almost always have four choices in the general election. Alaska Beacon
