ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 19-year-old Wasilla teen died when a Kia crossed the centerline and struck a Honda Civic on Parks Highway around 1 p.m.—two people in the Civic were seriously injured and troopers closed the highway for investigation. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ A truck hit the Tudor Road bridge over the Seward Highway on Friday afternoon, causing the bridge to close—two northbound lanes on the highway were also shut while one lane remains open and drivers are advised to expect delays or use alternate routes. Alaska's News Source
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A small Canadian mining firm pulled out of its planned uranium exploration at the Boulder Creek site on the Seward Peninsula due to seasonal, logistical, and capital issues (local Elim residents opposed the venture over possible river pollution). A prospector who holds the mining claims said he remains open to working with a new company, leaving the site’s future uncertain. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ On Tuesday, U.S. and Canadian fighter jets scrambled to intercept two Russian TU-95 bombers and two Su-35 jets that entered the Alaskan air defense identification zone near the Bering Sea—officials said the three-hour encounter was routine. Anchorage Daily News
- ➤ The Anchorage Assembly received a briefing Friday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. on the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, which reported that $50 million in repairs may be needed due to decades of deferred maintenance—urgent issues include an aging fire panel and failing elevators.
