  • Seattle Seahawks mascot Blitz gave around 100 children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska a free pair of shoes on Wednesday, easing back-to-school costs for families—marking the first time the club has partnered with the Kicks 4 Kids program.  Alaska's News Source

CRIME NEWS

  • A 39-year-old Fairbanks man, Edward Ginnis, was sentenced in Anchorage to 22 years in prison and five years of supervised release for supplying fentanyl that caused 32-year-old Adam Sakkinen’s fatal overdose in 2022, and prosecutors said he is among more than 60 charged in Alaska’s largest drug trafficking ring run out of prisons.  Anchorage Daily News

  • Anchorage Concert Association is holding today's Girl Crush Midsummer concert at Winchester Park in the Abbott Loop area, featuring Pepper Kit, Aspenyarrow and the River Livers as part of its free Summer Concert Series (the fourth of six events). The series, which started during the pandemic and grew from 40 to 400 attendees, connects local talent with the community.  Anchorage Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On June 28, 2025, brown bears damaged Kristiann Maclean’s property on Anchorage Hillside but her electric fence kept the chickens safe while local biologists urged residents to secure their coops and other bear attractants. Fish and Game now offers workshops and site visits for proper fence installation—steps aimed at reducing future wildlife conflicts.  Anchorage Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A man from Peru who was held with about 40 federal detainees at Anchorage’s Cook Inlet Pretrial Facility until June 30 is now hospitalized with tuberculosis in Washington, his attorney said—state corrections officials reported that all detainees were thoroughly screened and no outbreak occurred.  Anchorage Daily News
  • A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by Birchwood property owners against the Eklutna Tribe’s casino that opened earlier this year, affirming the tribe’s rights over the land. The ruling (June 27th) came as the tribe faces another federal suit challenging its authority over the property.  KTOO

  • The Blood Bank of Alaska urgently seeks O Negative and O Positive donors as summer travel has lowered donations.
