BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Santos, operator of the Pikka prospect on the North Slope, is in negotiations for a buyout by an Abu Dhabi-based consortium that has offered a deal worth $36 billion including its debt—terms are still being discussed. The purchase would affect Santos’ 51% stake in the project, which could produce up to 80,000 barrels a day, and state officials are watching the process closely. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ Anchorage is getting a new public art installation along the Ship Creek trail where a sculpture named Mother of Water and a metal mural titled Water is Life will be completed by July — the work is part of the 1% for Art program and is being installed on the bridge over the creek and railroad tracks. - ➤ Alaska Aviation Museum hosted the Fly By Festival on June 28th+ it featured flight demonstrations and static aircraft displays for fans. The event attracted local visitors+ it celebrated the region's aviation heritage. Alaska's News Source
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ In January, mining experts and state workers met in Vancouver to talk about Alaska’s mineral deposits—spurred by strong support from Canadian investors. The meeting explained that several companies plan to explore for gold, copper, and graphite deposits—efforts that may spur future growth across remote Alaskan regions. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ On June 27, the Alaska Supreme Court upheld the Division of Elections’ handling of a 2024 ballot initiative that sought to repeal ranked-choice voting by accepting post-deadline corrections on petition booklets—this decision ended a legal challenge that kept the initiative on the ballot and sets the stage for a new repeal effort.
