ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Recent data from Kayak showed that about 16% of flights at Anchorage International were delayed in 2024 with an average delay of 22 minutes—while flights connecting through Sea-Tac were twice as likely to face delays. The report noted that summer travel is busy and travelers leaving early may have a better chance of avoiding delays. Alaska Public Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov Mike Dunleavy vetoed House Bill 174 that would have allowed rural school districts to use state funds for teacher housing repairs and supported Mount Edgecumbe High School—lawmakers passed the bill 54-5-1 and may try to override the veto with at least 40 votes when the Legislature reconvenes in January. - ➤ On Wednesday, Governor Mike Dunleavy vetoed Senate Bill 39 that would have capped small-dollar loans at 36%—a move aimed at limiting predatory payday rates—to maintain access to short-term credit for those without traditional banking. - ➤ Anchorage is planning to build tiny houses called microunits on a city-owned lot near Elmore and Tudor that will house homeless people in recovery from substance abuse. The LaFrance administration has issued a request for proposals to build the units—using opioid settlement funds—and hopes they will be ready for occupancy by mid-October. Alaska's News Source
