- ➤ Five boaters stranded in sea ice 10 miles east of Deering were rescued after a VHF call prompted local residents and the Alaska Air National Guard to launch a 1,000-mile helicopter mission—hoisting the boaters to safety. Your Alaska Link

- ➤ Bill Armstrong—credited with the 2013 Pikka discovery—found the Sockeye-2 area near the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge on June 18th. He said the new discovery could boost North Slope oil production by tapping an estimated 700 million barrels. Alaska Public Media

- ➤ Three Alaska State Troopers—Jacob Barker, Kody Haley and Edward Owens—were involved in a June 14 officer-involved shooting in Houston that resulted in the death of 34 year old Kyle Lambert; the troopers were placed on seven days of administrative leave as the ABI investigates with an independent review pending. - ➤ A North Slope Borough police officer critically wounded an armed man in Utqiagvik Tuesday afternoon when the suspect—wanted on arrest warrants—was encountered with a gun and knife, occurring three days after state troopers fatally shot a wanted man in Mat-Su. Anchorage Daily News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A nonprofit led by Caroline Storm is planning a lawsuit against Gov. Dunleavy over his veto of almost $51 million in education funding—claiming it violates the state’s constitutional duty to provide adequate education.
