ACCIDENTS NEWS

- ➤ Anchorage’s Lucky Wishbone won the James Beard America’s Classic award at the 2025 James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards in Chicago, making it the first restaurant in Alaska to earn the national honor. - ➤ New research in Marine Mammal Science linked a harmful algal bloom to the death of ten fur seals and hundreds of fish that washed up on a Pribilof beach last summer. Tribal staff on St. Paul Island recovered the seals and said warming oceans have increased the toxin saxitoxin—an agent that stops nerve signals—although the upcoming fur seal harvest remains safe. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Alaska Department of Health reported that from 2017 to 2023, over half of fatal overdoses involved methamphetamine—mostly used along with opioids rather than on its own.
