- ➤ Rodeo Alaska in Anchorage is getting ready to hold its annual Father's Day celebration that will honor dads — including longtime announcer Dan Fowlie, who died in 2023 after a drunk driver accident. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Anchorage School District held a special meeting Thursday night after Governor Mike Dunleavy cut education funding, reducing the per student increase from $560 to $500—resulting in a $4.3 million shortfall. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Dunleavy vetoed parts of the state budget that cut funds for education—lowering the Base Student Allocation from $700 to $500 per student and reducing money for maintenance, construction, and teacher incentives. - ➤ The Anchorage Assembly approved an ordinance to make People Mover bus rides free for all riders 18 and under, starting July 10—ending the summer-only free fare program that required a $1 fare and student ID for older youth.
