- ➤ Anchorage’s Delaney Park Strip will host a Juneteenth celebration on June 14th and 15th featuring live music and dance performances to honor culture, freedom, and community. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Washington skier, 29-year-old Nicholas Vizzini, died in an avalanche on Mount McKinley on June 10 at about 6:15 p.m. as his descent from 16,600 feet turned deadly when debris buried him—his climbing partner sustained minor injuries and was rescued. Must Read Alaska

- ➤ Construction is underway on Anchorage’s new Inlet View Elementary School — funded by a $33.4 million bond approved by voters in 2022 — and it will serve over 300 students with modern facilities when it opens for the 2025-26 school year. Your Alaska Link
- ➤ State lawmakers have formed a bipartisan task force to study Alaska’s public school funding, maintenance and performance issues. The group will meet once a month during the legislative offseason starting in August and is expected to deliver its recommendations by early 2027—this comes after lawmakers boosted the base school funding by $700 following an override of Gov. - ➤ Anchorage residents joined a guided nature walk at Campbell Creek Science Center today to learn how to distinguish native wildflowers from invasive species—experts explained that non-native plants such as bird vetch and dandelions can crowd out local flora. - ➤ Governor Dunleavy’s administration has set a deadline of Aug. 21 for BlueCrest Energy to show proof of investment to drill a $55 million oil well and build a new offshore platform in Cook Inlet outside Anchorage. The state warned that if BlueCrest fails to meet its obligations, it may reduce or revoke the company’s leases amid rising concerns over a gas shortage for heating and power. KTOO
- ➤ The state of Alaska plans to ask the Board of Game to let wildlife managers shoot bears from helicopters in a rural part of Southwest Alaska to help the declining Mulchatna caribou herd after court rulings blocked the earlier program; the board will consider the proposal at a special meeting on July 14 in Anchorage – written comments are due by 5:30 p.m. Anchorage Daily News
