- ➤ An Anchorage woman said her husband was detained by ICE last week and is set to be deported to Peru from Tacoma after a missed court date. She said she will soon leave Anchorage to join him (she has been seeking clear updates from officials). Anchorage Daily News
- ➤ Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Cristian Ibanez Velasquez — a 32-year-old from Peru — on May 23 in his driveway, and his wife Paola Jimenez said she did not know if he was safe or when he would be released. Local activists protested his detention on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. outside the Department of Homeland Security offices as concerns grew over his limited contact and missed heartburn medication. KTOO
- ➤ City officials plan to allow up to 50 vehicles to park overnight on municipal land in South Anchorage next to a major shopping area to offer temporary shelter for homeless residents, with vehicles required to leave by 8 a.m. The mayor’s office will issue an RFP early June for a contractor to manage the site, which will run until October — local business leaders have raised concerns about the impact on the neighborhood.
