  • State lawmakers on Tuesday morning overrode Gov. Dunleavy’s veto of House Bill 57 during a joint session—46 legislators voted in favor, exceeding the 40-vote threshold required. The bill raises per-student funding by $700, boosting the Base Student Allocation to $6,660.  Alaska's News Source
  • Alaska lawmakers in Juneau overrode Governor Dunleavy’s veto on May 20, approving a $180 million boost to the education budget that permanently increases school funding after years of stagnation—this override marks the first time his education veto has been overturned.  Anchorage Daily News

  • Mayor Suzanne LaFrance announced plans to boost Anchorage public safety by increasing staffing in city departments and adding crisis care teams—steps that include fully staffing the prosecutor’s office and recruiting new police and fire personnel.   • WalletHub’s new report ranked Alaska as the sixth-best state for military retirees by comparing 28 metrics in economic environment, quality of life, and health care.
