- ➤ Bean’s Café will deliver meals at Mountain View Community Center next week + help Anchorage School District students who need food this summer. The nonprofit plans to distribute 100 meals each day and donate 2,000 pantry packs from its Ship Avenue location + expand support for local families. Alaska's News Source

- ➤ Dwight Yoakam will perform at the Alaska State Fair at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31 — tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. on the fair’s website. Anchorage Daily News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Alaska Department of Education failed a federal test on school funding disparity—putting tens of millions in federal impact aid at risk for the next fiscal year due to a too-wide gap between the most and least funded districts. - ➤ The final state budget draft cuts new money for key state services by eliminating funding for University of Alaska sports, research and hiring as flat funding plus inflation drive severe cuts; lawmakers also trim road maintenance and reduce trooper overtime with the Permanent Fund dividend set to about $1,000—while a few increases go to trial court upkeep and child advocacy centers and teacher recruitment decisions may come on Sunday. - ➤ At a triathlon held Sunday at Bartlett High School, 88-year-old competitor Millie Spezialy finished her 32nd GNT race among athletes from 30 Alaskan cities, 17 U.S. states, 1 U.S. territory, and Canada—she said she felt better after the event.
