  • Anchorage Fire Department and Safe Kids Alaska trained 19 firefighters as child passenger safety technicians last Thursday at the Anchorage Fire Training Center to help families install car seats + free appointments are available + officials noted the training will boost young traveler safety.  Your Alaska Link

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Santos said the Pikka oil field will soon produce its first saleable crude as final equipment testing wraps by month end. The project on the North Slope (a two-hour drive from Deadhorse) is the largest in decades and is expected to boost state revenue.  Alaska Public Media
  • AAA reports Alaska gas prices averaged $5.26 per gallon today, close to the $5.60 record set in 2022 (driving costs are straining Anchorage drivers' budgets), while the national price remains near $4.53 per gallon.  Your Alaska Link

  • With hunting season ahead, Alaskans are returning to Rabbit Creek Shooting Park this spring to practice and enroll in hunter education courses offered by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game — safety experts stress reviewing firearm rules before heading outdoors.  Alaska's News Source

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NOAA rejected a petition to list Gulf of Alaska king salmon under the Endangered Species Act yesterday, citing stable populations despite some declines.   • Anchorage’s Wildfire Division is set to start clearing brush and thinning spruce trees in July to reduce wildfire risks near homes and wild areas — a measure supported by federal grants and outreach through Firewise.
