  • A new federal report detailed the moments before the fatal April 28 plane crash in Nanwalek that killed an Anchorage artist and a Homer pilot and seriously injured a male passenger—witnesses said the pilot called for a go-around after spotting a dog on the runway.  Anchorage Daily News

  • Denali businesses are preparing for a busy summer tourism season with some shops already open, including the Harley Davidson store where Andrea Andrews resets the store every year for returning locals and new visitors.   • Alaska LNG is moving ahead with a two-part project that will first bring natural gas from the North Slope to the Railbelt and later export up to 20 million tonnes—early deals already cover 65% of the output from buyers in Taiwan and Thailand. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Superior Court Judge Christina Rankin blocked the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s emergency predator control program on Saturday because it was carried out in bad faith—defying earlier court orders that had already voided the efforts. The department halted the program for this season and will schedule a Board of Game meeting to seek reauthorization—citing the need to protect the Mulchatna caribou herd for sustained subsistence hunting.  Alaska's News Source

  • Anchorage residents gathered at City Hall Wednesday night to demand that Mayor Suzanne LaFrance take stronger action for public safety near homeless encampments such as the one at Davis Park. The mayor said she has halted 23 camps since last July and will continue using abatement—especially as large camps are set to be cleared this summer—to protect public spaces.  Your Alaska Link
  • The Alaska House and Senate picked a six-member conference committee to work out nearly 400 differences between their state budget plans and decide on the Permanent Fund dividend. Chair Andy Josephson and vice-chair Sen. Lyman Hoffman will meet regularly until they finish a balanced budget—lawmakers also want to set aside funds for fire risk mitigation—by the end of the session.  Anchorage Daily News
