- ➤ On Sunday, May 11th, the Alaska Native Heritage Center opened its summer season with free admission for Alaska Native Olympic presentations, dance performances, and village games — the festivities also feature three new exhibitions, short films, and unique artifacts and run through September 14th. - ➤ Dipnetters worked the river near Portage on Sunday, May 11, catching returning hooligan (eulachon) that were spawning along Southcentral rivers. Debra Shelton said she boils or fries the fish and shares her catch with local elders. Anchorage Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Anchorage officials received approval from the Assembly to explore a new mass burn waste-to-energy facility that will burn daily garbage to generate 20 to 30 megawatts of power and help extend the landfill’s life—this project is expected to take six to 10 years and cost about $500 million as a response to a rising natural gas shortage. The effort aims to reduce waste while providing a cleaner power source for the community. Anchorage Daily News
