Good morning, Anchorage.

Alaska Zoo held a Bear Aware day on Sunday, where mothers enjoyed free entry and families learned safe practices when encountering bears — the event featured bear interactions with honey and peanut butter containers to show natural behaviors.

Chugiak High Class of 1976 alumni gathered on May 8 to open a time capsule (buried during the American Bicentennial) that had mostly decomposed, though a flag and mementos sparked memories.

School officials removed the capsule from the courtyard and set plans for the Class of 2026’s America250 time capsule.

Alaska Zoo launched its Bear Aware program on May 10 to teach moms and visitors safe practices around bears.

The program offered practical tips for a secure zoo experience.

An engineering professor created a digital simulation of a Tracy Arm tsunami on May 10 to help experts study its impact on Alaska’s coastal areas.

The simulation may guide future safety planning for local communities.
