COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, young cyclists sharpened their riding skills at the 3rd annual Bike Rodeo in Anchorage (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at Chanshtnu Muldoon Park, where organizers offered bike tune-ups, obstacle courses, and safety tips. Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance attended the event and stressed helmet use while planning a new cycling event called (Biker Buddies) downtown later this summer.  Alaska's News Source

  • Blaine’s Art in Anchorage hosted a reception Saturday where local artists from ages 7 to 70 gathered to share work and learn new techniques. The Artist’s Choice show remains on display for May—supporting creative connection in the community.  Alaska's News Source

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Egg prices have dropped $2.45 a wholesale dozen since the start of 2025, a 42.25% fall from a March high of $8.17; local stores like Carrs now sell eggs for $3.99 a dozen even as remote areas still pay much more.  Must Read Alaska
  • Federal grants for ACLT’s Set Up Shop and Indigenous Peoples Set Up Shop programs were recently terminated by the government, putting at risk a proven path for underserved entrepreneurs to launch and grow businesses in Anchorage. Local advocates warn the funding cut could lead to lost jobs and empty storefronts—officials say canceling this support is like halting a contractor mid-job.  Alaska Beacon

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Alaska’s state-owned investment bank could begin oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge if federal officials lift the suspension on oil leases + court documents show this move would let the agency start seismic testing and other work before winter drilling. Attorneys have asked for a hold on legal proceedings through Sept. 30, while environmental and Alaska Native groups plan a prompt trial.  Anchorage Daily News
  • State legal officials filed additional briefs in response to a May 7 court order that did not stop a March 27 regulation allowing targeted bear removal to support the declining Mulchatna caribou herd in southwestern Alaska.
