- ➤ Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance proposed a new ordinance on May 6 that would make unauthorized fires on public property, during a burn ban or fire season, a misdemeanor punishable by fine or jail time—aiming to reduce the risk of fast-moving wildfires in the area. - ➤ Anchorage officials are launching a new program to use marijuana tax revenue to improve child care after voters approved the plan two years ago—this funding will first provide $1.25 million to help child care workers and about $2 million for provider upgrades. Dan Sullivan said on Friday that Alaska will soon get 174 new weather stations—part of a plan to update 4,600 air traffic control sites and replace old equipment including 618 radars, 25,000 radios and 475 voice switches.
