  • Barrick Gold sold its 50% stake in the Donlin project on April 22 for $800 million—John Paulson’s firm acquired 40% and Novagold Resources got 10% in exchange. Investors now plan an $80 million study to move the project toward production while local Native stakeholders support the project for its job potential even as some tribes and conservation groups oppose it.  Anchorage Daily News

  • Arctic Comic Con was held at the Dena’ina Center in downtown Anchorage on Sunday, April 27, featuring panels, gaming tournaments and cosplay with fans meeting characters like Stormtroopers and Ghostbusters—uniting a vibrant celebration of comics, science fiction and art.  Anchorage Daily News

  • Social worker Laura Norton-Cruz said that federal cuts to the PRAMS data team—which provided key information for maternal and infant health in remote villages—could make it harder to support safe breastfeeding and timely care for moms and babies.
