CRIME NEWS

  • Anchorage MMA fighter Christopher Johnson — known for competing in the Alaska Fighting Championship — died Wednesday evening when a fight turned deadly amid gunfire and another man was charged with murder.  Alaska's News Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • More than a dozen Indigenous authors gathered in Anchorage Friday for the Alaska Native Book Fair to celebrate Indigenous storytelling—sharing traditional tales and cultural heritage with local audiences. The event at the Cook Inlet Tribal Council building featured book signings and discussions of Alaska Native history.  Anchorage Daily News
  • More than a hundred people from nine Catholic parishes participated in Anchorage's annual Good Friday Faith Walk yesterday as they reenacted the stations of the cross with groups starting from various locations and led by a person carrying a large cross. The groups gathered later at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts for song and prayer—using new prayers designed for this Jubilee year.  Alaska's News Source

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Alaska Senate voted 16-4 on Tuesday on a new corporate tax rule expected to generate up to $65 million—money that may help fund dividends and services without raising taxes on residents. The bill now moves to the House Finance Committee for further hearings and aims to update how online sales are taxed.  Alaska Public Media

  • Scientists at the Alaska Volcano Observatory said Mount Spurr now appears less likely to erupt but remains at yellow alert so residents should keep emergency supplies ready.
