- ➤ Anchorage police responded to a disturbance with a firearm on the 2300-block E 66th Avenue on Wednesday evening when a man died after being taken to the hospital — authorities are questioning several people and say there is no threat to public safety. Alaska's News Source

- ➤ Anchorage school district sent new displacement letters to 20–30 educators due to insufficient state funding, and interviews will run until April 22 with final positions confirmed by May 15. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Alaska House approved a $6.2 billion draft state operating budget that leaves a large gap for the fiscal year starting July 1. The draft cuts the Permanent Fund dividend to about $1,400 per person and now goes to the Senate, which is expected to make further cuts—possibly changing how savings are used to balance the gap. - ➤ Anchorage Assembly approved more than $807 million to upgrade the Port of Alaska cargo terminal on Wednesday—Manson/Michels Joint Venture will begin work next year to support military deployments and cruise ships. - ➤ Drone footage has revealed sprawling makeshift shelters hidden in the Norwood—Strawberry—Raspberry Road area, where fires on March 26 and March 30 burned structures and two murders were reported in the past month. - ➤ On April 16th, the state Senate passed a basic $162 million capital budget that cuts funding from projects including a $37 million plan to fix Juneau roads and a $10 million plan for a deep draft port in Nome. - ➤ DOT project manager Galen Jones said the Glenn Highway and Highland interchange in Eagle River will be upgraded with roundabouts to ease heavy traffic starting in 2027—while engineering teams plan to break ground on the Downtown Trail Connection project in 2026 to link the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail with the Ship Creek Trail.
