  • Two city-run homeless shelters now welcome pets to help reduce barriers to housing and support stability for residents. City officials say the new policy lets people keep their animals and maintain dignity during tough times.  Alaska Public Media
  • Anchorage is hiring seasonal gardeners to care for parks and green spaces this summer. The role pays between $20.07 and $23.24 per hour on a 4x10 schedule, and applicants must be 18 or older with at least three months of horticulture experience.  Your Alaska Link
  • Anchorage’s international airport has introduced three self-driving wheelchairs in partnership with Alaska Airlines and NANA Management Services. The new service lets travelers with limited mobility ride from security to their gates at a relaxed pace — easing workload for staff during busy summer travel.  Anchorage Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A family seal-hunting trip turned into a rescue when a child and three adults were stranded on an ice floe off the coast near Chefornak on Saturday afternoon and were later safely transported by the Coast Guard helicopter from Kodiak to shore about 5 a.m. Sunday (no injuries reported).  Alaska's News Source

  • Global leaders and Indigenous voices are meeting at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center today through Friday to discuss Arctic policy, climate change and economic development.   • Alaska Fish and Game says bears are waking up from their dens and residents should secure trash, bird seed, and pet food as these attractants urge them to forage. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anchorage's Forestry Science Laboratory in Ship Creek is slated for closure as part of a federal restructuring announced on March 31 that affects local research for state agencies and Native corporations.   • Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International Airport approved a 20-year expansion plan to modernize terminals, expand the B-Concourse, add 268 parking spaces this summer, and upgrade cargo facilities, aiming for about 2% annual growth. HEALTH NEWS

  • Bartlett Regional Hospital is renovating its emergency department on a $13.5 million project to improve patient care and expand treatment spaces, with the emergency room remaining open via a temporary west-side entrance until the new entrance opens in fall 2027.  Your Alaska Link
  • Identity Alaska’s Anchorage clinic, the state’s only dedicated queer health center, is ending patient care this month because financial challenges and leasing issues delayed nearly half its Medicaid payments (the clinic served 1,500 people for primary and mental health care).
