CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Anchorage police and the FBI searched the Mercy Drive home of officer Christopher Sternhagen near where Tony Mac Kronos (40) was last seen on March 6 in Eagle River and ask anyone with tips to call 311 as part of an ongoing investigation. Alaska Public Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Meg Zaletel, executive director of the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness, announced Friday she will step down this summer to spend more time with her family—she said the agency is in a strong position for a smooth leadership transition. She will remain with the organization through the summer and will not seek re-election to the Anchorage Assembly as her term ends on April 22. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ Military leaders and Sen. Dan Sullivan say they plan to reopen the decommissioned naval base in Adak—Admiral Samuel Paparo Jr. testified on April 11 to support the idea. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ On Friday, the Legislature passed an education funding bill by one vote in each chamber to add a $1,000 boost per student, but Gov. Dunleavy said he would veto it immediately—calling it a joke. Lawmakers say the move shows their frustration with the governor and the need for more school funding. Alaska Public Media
- ➤ Senator Dan Sullivan said military leaders are planning to reopen a decommissioned naval base in Adak because its location is strategic and he pressed them to finish a reopening plan in two weeks. The base has three piers, two 8,000 ft. runways, a large hangar, and 22 million gallons of fuel storage—one of the biggest in the world to help the Navy respond quickly to foreign threats.
