- ➤ On April 4, 2025, the Anchorage Museum hosted a First Friday event that honored 17 founders and leaders who built the city’s dance community from the 1950s to the 1980s. Alice Bassler Sullivan—Alaska Dance Theatre’s founding artistic director—said the event was the start of ongoing efforts to document the city’s dance history. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ The Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center and National Weather Service issued an avalanche warning for the Western Chugach and Kenai Mountains because heavy rain, wind, and snow created unstable conditions; agencies warned that visitors should avoid slopes steeper than 30 degrees today—recreational areas at lower elevations could be risky. - ➤ Anchorage residents attended a town hall on April 5 at the University of Alaska Anchorage where education advocates urged lawmakers to pass new revenue measures—aiming to boost funding for schools that have not kept pace with rising costs. Speakers including teachers and business owners called for new taxes on oil companies and corporations—arguing that willing taxpayers should help prevent cuts in important school programs. - ➤ Assemblyman Randy Sulte introduced an ordinance that will make recreational use, possession, sale and offering of nitrous oxide, poppers and Kratom illegal in Anchorage. - ➤ A scoreboard released on April 5 showed high school track and basketball contests ended earlier this week—Friday’s Big C Relays at the Dome featured Dimond’s Sarah Dittman winning the long jump and top teams posting strong sprint and relay times while local basketball teams like Dimond, Soldotna and West secured wins. - ➤ Six Alaska high school track athletes shined at the Big C Relays held at The Dome on April 4, with Bartlett’s Tyler Drake setting new hurdle records and Deuce Alailefaleula winning the shot put.
