  • Hilltop Ski Area hosts its 5th annual Sink or Skim Pond Skim event tomorrow from 3–5 p.m. as participants ski or snowboard an 80-ft pond in costume — with an Easter Egg Bash Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. featuring 1,000 hidden eggs and golden prizes.  Your Alaska Link
  • Anchorage will host a celebration at Town Square Park today to honor Alaskan athletes from the Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include food, music and an Olympic parade.  Your Alaska Link

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Alaska will receive $22 billion in investment in energy production and storage over the next five years, boosting the grid with oil+gas, hydropower, wind and solar and creating local jobs. The funds are set to modernize the electric system for extreme weather, cyberattacks and market shocks while supporting domestic manufacturing.  Alaska Beacon

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University staff voted last month to form the union CAUSE-UAW (Coalition of Alaska University Employees for Equity) and await certification on April 8. The union formation means roughly 2,300 employees will not receive a 3% raise until a contract is negotiated.  KTOO
  • Rilke Schule German Immersion School in Anchorage got board approval to relocate to the former Lake Otis Elementary building and will share its move timeline soon to support a growing program.  Your Alaska Link
  • University of Alaska staff voted on Wednesday to form the Coalition of Alaska University Staff for Equity, a union that will represent 2,300 permanent employees and community campus workers; certification is expected on Apr. 8 with bargaining to follow.  Alaska Beacon

  • Wildlife officials from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game warn Anchorage residents that worsening winter conditions are driving moose onto roads and trails (with reports of aggressive encounters), and advise people to keep their distance, secure pets, and avoid feeding the animals.  Your Alaska Link

  • Anchorage Recovery said the new tiny homes will be full by Friday (many residents are homeless women seeking addiction treatment) as part of an effort to provide support for those experiencing homelessness.  Alaska's News Source
