COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The historic Carrs-Safeway at 1340 Gambell Street in Fairview will close next month — leaving residents who rely on its grocery and pharmacy services with fewer options. The 35 employees may transfer to surrounding stores while community advocates work to counter the loss. Anchorage Daily News
- ➤ Anchorage resident David Jensen is building new microchip scanning stations to help reunite lost pets with their owners. The stations will be in service starting Friday—letting anyone scan for microchips—and will beep when a pet is registered. Your Alaska Link
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On March 27th, the Alaska Army National Guard airlifted an injured skier from the Tordrillo Mountains using a Black Hawk helicopter from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson at 11:20 a.m.—the team stabilized the patient with in-flight care before transporting him to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Beloved reindeer Star, the seventh animal living at the corner of 10th Avenue and I Street, died Tuesday after suspected poisoning and repeated tampering with his enclosure—his owner Albert Whitehead said he was euthanized because his health had declined sharply. KTOO

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Anchorage Assembly passed an ordinance that lets the school district spend more than its approved budget if state funding increases, following a plan to displace 185 teachers to manage a $100 million deficit.
