  • Anchorage Downtown Hope Center will expand by purchasing a new building that offers larger classrooms and new training options in trades such as construction+electrical work. The upgrade will help local residents gain skills for immediate employment.  Alaska's News Source

  • Filmmaker Kevin Smith held a meet-and-greet at Bosco’s Comics in Anchorage on Friday afternoon (hundreds of fans queued around tables and aisles) as they eagerly awaited their turn to chat with him.  Alaska's News Source
  • Local survivors in Anchorage remembered 62 years since the 9.2 magnitude Good Friday earthquake struck the region. The anniversary, observed on Friday, Mar. 27 (one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded in Alaska), brought reflective moments for many in the community.  Alaska's News Source

  • Alaska is building an earthquake early warning system with federal funding to boost community preparedness and update building codes. Officials say the project is in early stages and will be ready before another major quake.  Your Alaska Link

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rising water temperatures in Alaska are linked to annual Vibrio parahaemolyticus cases (bacteria causing food poisoning from raw oysters), but strict protocols require oyster harvest sites to monitor water temperatures from June 15 to Sept. 15 to keep outbreaks rare.  Alaska Public Media
