GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anchorage code enforcement began demolishing America's Best Value Inn and Suites after repeated fires and years of disrepair rendered it unfit for occupancy— the hotel suffered a fire in 2022 and again in February when four people were rescued without injuries. An adjacent building remains occupied by extended stay residents.  Alaska's News Source
  • Anchorage voters will see Proposition 3 on the April municipal ballot to authorize over $8 million in bonds for the Parks and Recreation department—funds that will support 17 projects including a Town Square Park makeover, a new Cuddy Park chalet, and a connection between Fish Creek and the Tony Knowles Coastal trail with construction set to begin in 2026.  Alaska's News Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield president said two Senate bills may raise health insurance costs for nearly every Alaska resident—making it harder for families and businesses.
