- ➤ The Alaska Volcanic Observatory said they found new magma under Mount Spurr—an eruption is likely and residents should be ready. Officials are watching the situation closely and advise Alaskans to prepare for possible hazards. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ State transportation leaders and volcano experts are watching Mt. Spurr for ash that may affect Anchorage's airport in the coming weeks or months. - ➤ Researchers are investigating why the Mulchatna caribou herd remains low even after a slight increase from a sharp drop, as new data shows high pregnancy rates but continues low calf survival. - ➤ NOAA in Anchorage fired at least 13 workers at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center and may have lost over 5% of its staff—leaving fewer people to track Alaska’s fish stocks this spring. - ➤ Joshua Brown made history by becoming the first person to finish all three disciplines in the Iditarod Trail Invitational 1000 when he biked the race in Nome on Wednesday.
